"My heart was pounding so hard, I swear I could feel my chest move as I chanced taking my bike into the loose dirt on the outside to pass a fellow racer. It was a tight hairpin on the banked berm of loose dirt that was piled up from the rooster tails of riders accelerating toward the table top just ahead "... (From the Journal Of A Motocross Racer) WHAT IS MOTOCROSS ? Motocross, a thrilling sport for both the riders and the spectators. It is the competition of riders with skill and endurance and the power of their motorcycles racing to be No. 1. Motocross fills up your senses with the combination of the whine of the finely tuned engines of powerful motorcycles, the smell of gas and oil mixed from the exhausts, seeing riders clad in full racing gear of colorful jerseys covered with chest protectors, kidney belts, elbow pads, gloves, knee-high leather boots and full coverage helmets. The riders line up at the starting gate. Their left hand holding in the clutch, waiting for the split second start. Then, screaming machines, screaming spectators, flying dirt, metal and leather coming together as the riders jockey of position,... there off. Lap after lap of bone jarring jumps, their arm-muscles aching from absorbing the shock of the front end of the bike as mud and dust is kicked up and covers their goggles and mouth piece. A rider needs the knowledge of every racing experience he's had up to this race. All that practice, conditioning, proper food, weight lifting, sleep, is all tied into this race. Preparation is key.
